Funny as a Crutch      January 28-30, 2010

an accessible comedy by Rich Orloff

(The Rehearsal Schedule is at the bottom of the page!)

To prospective audience members:  Mark your calendars now for this eye-opening (no offense, Oedipus!) comedy!  We'll see you at the theatre Thursday through Saturday nights at 7:30 pm (house opens for first-come, first-served seating at 7 pm) on January 28-30, 2010.  Tickets are available from cast members, at Howlin' Byroon's Music Exchange on South H Street, or by emailing info@LHSdrama.com.  Prices are $9 for adults, $6 for students (LHS, CHS, Hancock, etc.) and the differently-abled.  All tickets at the door are $10.

nine short comedies about disability
by Rich Orloff

“Many, many pleasures!  Rich Orloff’s witty, unpredictable script fends off pity and preachiness with a daffy sense of humor.”
The New York Times (Critic's Pick)

“A unique theatrical experience.  This delightful program packs in about a dozen laughs per square foot, and raises your consciousness at the same time.”

nytheatre.com (Pick of the Week)

“Rich Orloff packs a lot of agile humor into FUNNY AS A CRUTCH.  The show resonates with meaningful authenticity while generating its laughs.”

Back Stage (Critic’s Pick)
FUNNY AS A CRUTCH skewers stereotypes, archetypes, prejudices and assumptions both towards and within the disabled community.  Beginning with the unlikely story of the first disabled settlers at Plymouth Rock and ending with the fractured fairy tale of Cripperella, FUNNY AS A CRUTCH finds humor in everything from representations of the disabled in popular culture to the challenges of personal relationships.
FUNNY AS A CRUTCH was originally produced by the Foolish Theatre Company in New York City.

Thanks to everyone who auditioned.  The decisions (especially girls!) were very difficult.  Please know that a lot of thought went into this casting.  Not being cast does not mean you are a lousy actor!  If you were not cast this time around, please consider auditioning in the future.  Auditions for the Musical will be in mid to Late January.  Auditions for Comedy Tonight! 2010 will likely be in March.  Thanks again!
